We offer relaxing massage as well as specific massage treatment for an injury, other impairments, or for pain management. Our licensed and certified massage therapists are trained in various methods, most of which are listed below. Our newest service is hot stone massage.

The simplest tools are transformed in the hands of the therapist. Stones that have been smoothed and shaped by nature now work to do the same for you. Stone massage involves the application of water-heated basalt stones of varying sizes to key points on the body, giving a deep massage and creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The direct heat relaxes muscles, allowing manipulation of a greater intensity than with regular massage. Depending on your needs, natural stone therapy can unlock tension deep within the muscles, relieve stress, or help you achieve total relaxation. If you have never experienced this unique indulgence, you owe yourself this exquisite moment.

Acupuncture is part of the holistic system of Oriental medicine. Acupuncture was originally developed in China, where it has been practiced for over 2500 years. Oriental medicine views health as a constantly changing flow of energy, or "Qi", (pronounced "chi"). It is believed that imbalances in the natural flow of energy result in pain and disease, effecting our physical, emotional or spiritual beings. The harmonious flow of Qi restores the patient to a state of health, increases vitality and enhances the ability to resist disease. The goal of the practitioner of Oriental medicine is to balance and harmonize the body's Qi. To achieve this, the practitioner must consider all factors that can disrupt the flow of Qi, from physical concerns-such as environment, lifestyle factors, diet and exercise-to the emotional and spiritual states of the patient. This "whole person" approach allows the practitioner to best contribute to the patient's well being.

Practitioners of Oriental Medicine believe that Qi flows through out the body in fourteen channels or meridians. An acupuncturist inserts tiny, disposable, sterile, flexible needles just under the skin at specific points along the channels to strengthen the flow of Qi or to remove blockages. This process is believed to stimulate the body's natural healing response.

Acupuncture has many possible uses including general health maintenance. The World Health Organization lists 40 medical conditions which acupuncture may help including: anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, allergies, arthritis, asthma, chronic pain, digestive and bowel disorders, headaches, infertility, insomnia, menopause and PMS symptoms, chronic pain, TMJ, sciatica, sports injuries, muscle pain, and stroke.

The number of treatments depends on the duration and severity of the main complaint. One treatment might be all that is required for an acute condition while five to fifteen treatments might be needed for a more chronic condition. Some conditions might require long term maintenance.

During your first treatment, the acupuncturist will ask you a series of questions all targeted at gaining information about your current state of health. You will receive a treatment on the first session and your practitioner will discuss each of these with you prior to any treatment. A variety of styles of oriental medicine may be used by your acupuncturist to treat you, including acupuncture and the insertion of needles, electro-acupuncture, heat treatments, Gwa Sha, cupping, massage, acupressure, reflexology, and shiatsu tui na massage.

Tuina

Tuina is an Oriental Bodywork Therapy that has been used in China for 2,000 years. Tuina uses the traditional Chinese medical theory of the flow of Qi through the meridians as its basic therapeutic orientation. Through the application of massage and manipulation techniques, Tuina seeks to establish a more harmonious flow of Qi through the system of channels and collateral's, allowing the body the naturally heal itself. Tuina is now being popularized in this country as a powerful therapeutic extension of traditional western massage methods. Tuina's simplicity and focus on specific problems, rather than a more generalized treatment, make it both an excellent alternative and/or extension of the Swedish-style massage.
