Amy
Fair, BA, LMT |
Amy
received her massage therapy diploma from The Cortiva Institute
in Watertown, MA (formerly Muscular Therapy Institute). She has
had training in deep tissue, sports massage, neuromuscular therapy,
myofascial release and Swedish massage.
Her
interest in massage was first sparked while she was an athlete at
Wellesley College. Amy discovered that she enjoyed giving massages
to her teammates - it enhanced their performance and helped them
to recover from competitions. This naturally led to an interest
and special focus on athletes, injury work and approaches to injury
related tension as part of the foundation for practicing massage.
Over
the years, Amy's concept of 'athlete' has expanded beyond the common
definition. "An athlete is not always one who maintains an
intense workout regimen, has achieved a high level of physical fitness,
and is a part of a sports team. An athlete has a specific mindset;
a way of thinking that is intentional, strategic, and is passionate
about bettering him or herself to become the best athlete they can
be - physically, mentally and spiritually. All athletes are battling
obstacles, picking themselves up after failures and suffering from
injuries as they take steps to achieve their life goals and become
better people." Through massage, Amy strives to bring health
and healing to the body, soul and spirit, giving support to the
whole person.
Amy
also holds a BA in Spanish from Wellesley College. Her work and
life experiences include educational counseling in an adult education
center, residential advising to college students and interns, and
working at REI as a sales representative. She has been a volunteer
teacher to both children and adults in the Boston area and in Venezuela.
